Traveling to Peru: A trip full of valuable encounters and insights

Our Yexpert Naomi embarked on a remarkable journey. She visited our growers in Peru, discovered new opportunities, and got a behind-the-scenes look at mango cultivation. Curious about her experiences? Read on and find out for yourself!

A Journey with a Purpose

The goal of the trip was clear: to visit our current growers, discover new potential partners, and gather valuable insights into the second half of the season. “You can learn a lot from reports and conversations, but nothing compares to an on-site visit. You don’t just see the product—you experience the passion and working methods of our growers.” Of course, we speak with our growers often, but nothing beats these personal encounters.

Strengthening Relationships

The focus of the trip was on further strengthening relationships with our current growers, while also seeking new growers who share our passion and with whom we can grow together. “They all produce mangoes, but some also cultivate products like avocados or pomegranates, often in different regions. The scale at which they operate varies greatly—from major players processing 1,500 containers per season to family-run businesses handling around 300-400 containers per season.”

Truly Seeing and Feeling Their Passion

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the mangoes in their country of origin. “We frequently connect via phone, WhatsApp, Teams, and trade fairs, but nothing compares to these face-to-face meetings. Seeing their work in their own environment makes the encounter much more personal. They take the time to share their processes and proudly showcase everything. Their enthusiasm is contagious!”

A Typical Day on the Road

Each day followed a tight schedule: “We started with breakfast and then drove to the first grower. There, we were warmly welcomed, sometimes with a presentation. After that, we received a tour of the packing house and, of course, visited the fields. After lunch, we traveled to the next grower, where a similar program often followed. At the end of the day, we checked into our hotel, freshened up, and had dinner with the grower we had visited that afternoon.”

Special Moments

The warmth of our partner growers made a lasting impression. “At one of the companies, I took a photo with an employee in the field. That same evening, he gave me the photo in a frame as a gift. It’s now on my desk! Such a gesture shows how valuable personal relationships are.”

A Strengthened Partnership

This trip not only provided insight into production but also strengthened relationships with our growers. “You spend a significant part of the day together. Naturally, you discuss business, but also personal matters. This creates a bond, which is crucial because we want to grow together. Growers greatly appreciate that you take the time for a personal visit. They proudly welcome you into their world, making the partnership even more valuable.”

A Perfect Match with Farmhouse International

What makes a grower a great match for Farmhouse? “A transparent relationship, based on mutual trust and a shared ambition and passion to grow together and achieve great results.” And that is exactly what this trip highlighted: strong partnerships, valuable insights, and a future full of opportunities. #connectingsmiles
